When Duke guard Jeremy Roach committed to Scott Drew and the Baylor Basketball program as a transfer in April, anonymous-yet-infamous college basketball insider @trillydonovan on twitter posted:

When Dave Aranda took to the podium at Big 12 Media Days, he was asked why recruiting momentum had shifted in a green and gold direction. He responded with “We pay players”.

And thus, Bags U was born.

In a stroke of viral marketing genius, sparking new message board threads across the nation, Baylor football coaches emerged from the locker room to start camp on Friday wearing shirts that said just that.

The tweet exploded immediately, garnering reaction from national writers and irony-blind rival fans as well.

Baylor Athletic Department staff and coaches on the same page and leaning into the reality of modern day college athletics. I never thought I’d see the day.

We are in the After Bags era (AB) of Baylor Football, and this is easily the most optimistic I have been about the program in a LONG time. Long Live BAGS UNIVERSITY.
