It’s become a common statement to say that you can’t learn anything from a win over an FCS opponent. I don’t think this is true. In fact, I think the statement derives from the thought that playing an FCS team in football is a lose-lose proposition - i.e. either you blow the FCS team out of the water and get no credit for it or you lose, in which case you’re a laughingstock. Of course, we Baylor fans know that there’s a third option - you beat your FCS opponent and look terrible in the process… which somehow is perhaps the worst outcome of them all.

But that doesn’t mean you don’t learn much about your team. It’s entirely possible to learn a great deal about your team from a game against an FCS opponent, especially when your team has as many questions as the 2024 Baylor Bears do heading into the season. And we got answers on Saturday night. Yes, we must caveat those answers with the usual disclaimers of the strength of the opponent and the nature of the scheme that was deployed against said opponent. But for a fanbase full of questions, it was cathartic to finally have some answers.

That’s what we’re talking about on PodcastDelOso this week. The answers we got from Baylor’s 45-3 win over Tarleton State, both good and bad. And then we’re looking at what new questions present themselves when Baylor heads to Salt Lake City on Saturday to face off against the Utah Utes.
