Wear Gold.

There are few words that, when paired together, will get the Baylor fanbase quite so riled up as those will. Baylor has been trying for 5 or 6 years to make a Gold Out Game a thing, and I’ve long stood in support of this effort. I’ve always thought gold out would absolutely POP on television and be visually stunning in person. The release of the NCAA 25 football game confirmed this thought of mine. It looks really good.

But again, one mention of the word “gold” is enough to bring out the vitriol in our fanbase. To an extent, I get it. We haven’t exactly been consistent in what constitutes “gold” at Baylor, despite the reasoning behind it being a school color in the first place. Shades ranged from shiny, metallic, “Vegas” gold to even a khaki color that only resembles gold in the vaguest way imaginable. The fanbase’s opinions appear as varied as the color itself, with some refusing to call the current color anything other than “yellow” and others simply refusing to participate at all. Heck, at the start of the season, West Virginia did a stripe-out in which their fanbase expertly turned out with half the stadium wearing the color gold. It was visually stunning. I made note of this on Twitter, and immediately had several Baylor folks respond to me complaining about our “yellow” despite me never making direct reference to it.

I just don’t get it… and I never will. It’s a color. The athletic department asked that we wear it. Let’s wear it. Yeah, clothing options in gold used to suck, but they’ve improved vastly in the 6 or so years that we’ve been doing this. Pick up a gold shirt, throw it on, and let’s go beat BYU.
